Scales
A scale is an ordered sequence of notes arranged from a starting note to its higher or lower repetition. The specific pattern of distances between those notes gives each scale its distinctive sound, character, and musical color.
Each scale is built from a pattern of whole steps and half steps. Choose a root, then a scale type: the pattern stays the same as the root changes. Harmonic minor also includes an augmented second, equal to three half steps.
